ALBUM REVIEW: RICK ROSS "RICH FOREVER"

By: Jacoby Miles

Rich Forever, Rick Ross’s mixtape for his forthcoming album, God Forgives, I Don’t, is actually what I had anticipated, great production that easily carries Ross’s signature voice. He continues the same metaphorical wordplay and trademark grumble on hammering beats that sound universally the same, but the sound is still effective and has its followers regardless. Even though the mixtape does not have any tracks that will make the club scene explode, it does have plenty of songs that will make you bobble your head.

The guest appearances on this album is entertainingly excessive and includes such artists as Nas, Meek Mill, Birdman, Future, Pharrell, and Drake to name a few. Drake even reigned supreme on the track “Stay Schemin” and hits hard with the line “B****, you wasn’t with me shooting in the gym” in reference to Kobe Bryant losing $150 million in a divorce settlement to his ex-wife. The line was so alluring that Ross had to step in and repeat it himself! Ross seems to force the best out of his collaborators.

It seems this is the best of a mixtape as one can expect. Plenty of guest appearances and first-rate production makes this mixtape, if you can call it that, attractive. If this is the prelude to his upcoming album, I have a good feeling that God Forgives, I Don’t will be a heavy-hitter!
