The family of Amy Winehouse was unsure of whether or not they wanted to hear Amy’s unreleased music before Salaam Remi, the producer of her first two albums, played the tracks - nobody knew what to expect. But after conceding and listening to her music, the family was in all smiles. Remi told Billboard Magazine that her family began asking questions like “She wrote this? When did she do this? What happened?” during the listening session. Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, was probably the most stunned out of family and deemed that her new songs helped his family heal from his daughter’s tragic death back in late July. Furthermore, the unreleased tracks reminded them of how great of a musical artist she was despite her very public shortcomings. “I felt they spent so much time chasing her around, they didn’t realize how gifted and talented Amy was,” Remi stated. "Not just when she passed at 27 but at 18 when I first met her. It made everyone that knew her feel so much better about her passing and her life as well. This record is about balancing out all of the bull in things that may have just been uncool, and saying 'this person existed.”
Although Amy doesn’t have a plethora of unreleased tracks to provide like Tupac Shakur, she does have a number of new and remixed songs. Moreover, two of the tracks would have made it to her third studio album such as “Between the Cheats” and “Like Smoke,” which features Nas. Remi insisted that "There were a lot of things she wrote and laid down that haven't been released.” “We're actually releasing what I consider releasable," he continued. "Everything else is through the voice of her family... because they hold the bar up high." If you are a Winehouse fan, I’m sure you will pick up a copy of her 12-track album entitled “Lioness: Hidden Treasures” which will be released by Universal Republic on Dec. 5.
