On December 30th, Katy Perry and Russell Brand announced the end to their 14-month marriage inciting “irreconcilable differences” as the basis for the breakup. Since her evangelical Christian parents raised her to shun the idea of divorce, Katy Perry wants Russell Brand to file for divorce from her to avoid displeasing her religious parents according to TMZ.com. The papers were filed in Los Angeles and neither of the entertainers were present – Brand has been said to have returned to England and Perry was making her way to Hawaii. According to sources, their marriage has been on a downward spiral for several months, but they both attempted to work things out before ultimately separating.

In addition, it has been reported that the ex-couple celebrated Christmas apart from one another and were not wearing their wedding rings. "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends,” Brand stated yesterday. Perry has yet to make an official statement mostly due to her busy touring schedule in support of her latest album “Teenage Dream.”
